If their knockout phase play-off was anything to go by, Galatasaray supporters could be in for another thrilling encounter. The Turkish champions [LLWWW] edged past Juventus 7-5 on aggregate in a dramatic tie that required extra time in the second leg. A commanding 5-2 victory at Rams Park in the opening leg proved crucial, continuing an extraordinary home record that has seen the Istanbul giants lose just twice in their last 46 matches in all competitions [33W, 11D, 2L]. Their European pedigree at home is equally impressive. The Lions are unbeaten in their last ten home European Cup or Champions League knockout matches [6W, 4D, 0L], a statistic that will give them confidence ahead of welcoming one of Europe’s most decorated clubs. Momentum is also firmly on their side. Cimbom have won their last three matches in all competitions, including a hard-fought 1-0 victory over fierce Istanbul rivals Beşiktaş at the weekend. History against English opposition at home also offers encouragement. The Lions have lost just one of their last nine European home matches against English clubs [5W, 3D, 1L], and they already defeated Liverpool 1-0 during the league phase earlier this season. In fact, the English side have failed to beat the Lions in four of their previous five UCL meetings [1W, 2D, 2L]. Victor Osimhen scored the winner when these teams met earlier in the season. He is expected upfront when Okan Buruk deploys a 4—2—3—1 setup. Metehan Baltacı, however, will miss the match through suspension.

Liverpool arrive in Turkey in solid form themselves [WWWLW]. The Reds bounced back from a recent Premier League disappointment by defeating Wolves 3-1 in the FA Cup. Their European campaign has also gathered momentum. Arne Slot’s side ended the UCL league phase with three consecutive victories without conceding [including a 6-0 win over Qarabağ], highlighting the defensive solidity that has underpinned their success. The English champions have traditionally performed well at this stage of the competition. Liverpool have won the away leg in nine of their 12 previous UCL round-of-16 ties, losing only three. There are some fitness concerns heading into the tie, though. Alexis Mac Allister is a doubt, while Alexander Isak and Conor Bradley are ruled out. Hugo Ekitike may lead the line in a 4—2—3—1 pattern.
